Pittsburgh Logistics Systems Recognized As One Of Pennsylvania’s Best 100 Places to Work

Rochester, PA, December 13, 2000 -- Pittsburgh Logistics Systems, Inc. (PLS) was named one of Pennsylvania’s 100 Best Places to Work at an awards luncheon in Harrisburg, PA, on Tuesday, December 12. The award, created by Governor Tom Ridge and the Team Pennsylvania Board, is the first of its kind offered by a state. Modeled after FORTUNE Magazine’s ranking of the “100 Best Places to Work For in America,” this program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania benefiting the state’s economy, workforce, and businesses.

Joe Vargo, President of PLS, commented, “We are honored to be named one of the best employers in Pennsylvania. This achievement, which is based largely on feedback from our own people, reflects PLS’ commitment to create a positive and rewarding work environment for our employees, an ongoing initiative for our organization.”

PLS introduced several progressive human resource programs this year to motivate and develop employees. These programs include life-long learning courses that are available to employees through PLS’ partnerships with area colleges; referral incentives to reward employees for identifying and recruiting top talent to PLS; and opportunities for employee advancement through investments in new business opportunities with sister companies eflatbed.com, PLS International LP, and InnerLink Strategic Solutions Inc.

The Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania award program recognized two groups of companies: 50 medium-sized companies of between 50-250 employees and 50 large-sized companies of 251 or more employees. PLS was recognized in the medium-sized company category.

Rankings were determined by scientific surveys that were sent to participating employers and employees. The employee evaluation carried 75 percent of the overall weight for the survey. Companies also had to meet the following criteria: must be a for-profit business; must be a publicly or privately held business; must have a facility in Pennsylvania; and must be in good standing with the Commonwealth’s Attorney General and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

The program was sponsored by a public/private partnership of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, Team Pennsylvania, Kuntz Lesher LLP, the Central Penn Business Journal, the Great Place to Work Institute, and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

Located in Rochester, PA, Pittsburgh Logistics Systems, Inc. (www.pghlogistics.com) is the leading third-party logistics management provider to the metals industry. PLS serves a wide array of metals companies, including suppliers, producers, service centers, and end-users. In addition to having been named one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania, PLS has been recognized for four consecutive years by the Pittsburgh Technology Council as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the Pittsburgh region. PLS is part of the Quadrivius, Inc. (www.quadrivius.com) group of companies.
